I write about investigating crypto through the eyes of a seasoned hedge fund investor.
But why crypto?
I wrote this tweet thread about it:
And repeating it here:
Potentially revolutionary: technology that could have as large an impact as the internet.
Learning lots: it’s feeding my curiosity. Lots of stuff I don’t get. Sifting through what is useful vs garbage is difficult. I read a ton. That’s how it was when I started my hedge fund investing career. The excitement is back!
Regret minimization: in 10 years time if crypto pans out like the internet and I didn’t participate in building it, I’ll regret that. I already regret not focusing more time on crypto a few years ago.
Large fast growing market: ~$2T market growing faster than virtually anything else its size. There’s opportunities abound.
Smart motivated people: the industry is full of them. I come across them on twitter, discord and hopefully more in person.
Create something useful: the technology could be useful to so many people around the world, much like the internet has been. It would be fulfilling to play a role in creating that.
Great investment landscape: opaque inefficient market where I can develop an informational edge. See this thread for more:
Few experts: most are new to the space and it’s evolving so quickly so the fact that I’m not an “expert” matters far less than most industries that require institutional knowledge.
Finance background helps: notwithstanding 8, my investing, research and markets background is helpful.
Potentially financially lucrative: with hard work, luck and adding value it should be!
So that’s why I’m jumping in. Figuring things out. Looking to learn, network and find where I can be valuable. What’s getting you excited? Let me know @samuelmandrew
Why Am I Writing About it?
It’s simple:
Articulate my thoughts: nothing is better than writing for me to articulate my ideas and insights in a way that other people understand.
Synthesize research: I love researching and learning. I read a ton. But there’s lots of noise. Writing forces me to synthesize everything I read into the most salient insights. Philosopher Blaise Pascal quipped “I would have written a shorter letter, but I did not have the time.” I always try to write shorter.
Meet people: I love connecting with people. Jamming with them on how things work, ideas, pontificating and challenging each other. I hope my writing will connect me to awesome people. So reach out!
